A Rottweiler should be calm,good natured, self assured, confident in family surroundings, aloof an suspicious with strangers. Happy and outgoing with the family, always wanting to please. Are Rottweilers good with children? Yes they are good with children. Rottweilers with adult supervision, can make affectionate family friends, as well as good family protectors and playmates. Although due to their size and power children should be of school age, as toddlers can accidentally get knocked or bumped into. Do you dock tails and remove dew claws in New Zealand Yes... Do you sell puppies overseas Yes.. Are rottweilers good with cats? Some of our dogs are great with cats others dont like them,generally if you bring them up together at a young age they should get on fine. Should we buy a dog or a bitch? A dog can be harder to bring up and train then a bitch, so if you have not had a dog or any large breed to train before then we would recommend you buy a bitch. How big will my dog grow? A fully grown male will be between 25-27 inches at the shoulder, and weigh approximately 50 kg, a bitch is smaller measuring 23-25 inches at the shoulder, and weighing approximately 40 kg. What's the cost of a good quality Rottweiler ? Thats a very difficult one to answer, as we all know, you pay for what you get. A pup can cost between $1000 - $1500, a really good specimen from a top show kennels will cost a lot more. What age can I expect my Rotty to live until? With a bit of luck, you can expect a dog in this breed to live about 10 years, give or take a year. Is the Rottweiler the right breed for me? A Rottweiler is an intelligent, powerfully built dog, that is not suited to everyone. The breed should not be considered to be a passing fad or for people wanting a macho image, owners should be responsible, and with responsibility comes a lot of hard work.Essentially all new perspective owners should carefully research the breed prior to buying a pup.! Are Rottweilers easy to train? Usually Rottweilers have good working abilities, and are willing to please, obedience training is the easiest way to train your dog.I find a male dog responds much better to the female of the household if she has trained the dog, my wife trains all our male dogs, this we find builds up a good bond, as the dogs treat both owners as equal pack leaders. Any health issues with the breed? I consider the biggest health problem in the breed is cancer, you can breed for good hips, and excellent temperaments, but its the luck of the draw if your dogs get cancer.Other problems that you should be aware of include, Hip and elbow dysplasia, cruciate problems, and skin problems. A good breeder should be able to advise you about these problems.
